Introducing Jenay Hicks

Introducing HelloHealth’s Jenay Hicks

In Episode 4, Dr. Carmen Mohan chats with HelloHealth counselor, Jenay Hicks, MS, NCC. Ms. Hicks currently counsels individual clients “to help them cope with anxiety, depression, and career transitions and to make strides in self-care with a particular passion for BIPOC.” Listen in as Dr. Mohan and Ms. Hicks discuss how important it is to be in the business of personal health transformation and why it’s necessary to “practice what you preach.” Learn why, after spending most of her adult life working in Morehouse School of Medicine’s Graduate Medical Education office, Ms. Hicks decided to make the leap into active counseling after determining that America’s health-care providers “need a space where they can safely balance the strength and vulnerability it takes to be a health-care professional” and how that understanding has informed her philosophy on patient care.

Follow along as Ms. Hicks outlines her own journey in health care and how she’s learned to apply what she’s learned to her practice and her patients. Learn why HelloHealth has moved away from the term “mental health”—embracing the philosophy of “brain health” instead—and why brain health allows us to grow into who we are meant to become. Find out more about person-centered therapy and how it can help you center yourself in your personal story and find your joy again. Finally, discover which of HelloHealth’s workshops are Ms. Hicks’ favorite and why self-compassionate people are the most charismatic.

Action Steps:

  1. Be self-compassionate. Practice self-prioritization and choose how you will prioritize yourself.

  2. Do your breath work. When in doubt, just breathe. Intentional breathing grounds us in the present and allows us to reset.

  3. Practice mindfulness and build it into your calendar. Download our “Mindfulness Tracking Sheet” to help you stay on track.
