An interview with Shani Godwin, CEO of Communiqúe USA, Inc., author, speaker, blogger, and podcaster.

In this episode of “HelloHealth Today,” Dr. Carmen Mohan sits down with guest, Shani Godwin, for an interview on mental health, self-love, redefining success, and finding joy, both professionally and personally. An accomplished entrepreneur, author, blogger, podcaster and speaker, Shani Godwin — also known as the Chief Joy Officer — has over 17 years of experience leading her high-growth marketing firm, Communiqué USA.

Shani explores her decisions to attend a HBCU and start her company, Communiqúe USA. Her experiences led her to create Joy Economics(sm), a corporate platform that helps its key stakeholders and communities find better ways to live, work and play by using joy as its currency.  Despite the success of her business, the pinnacle of her career turned out to be one of the saddest and most stressful times of her life.  Shani reveals that her unhappiness and stress level grew as her company grew.  When she shared these feelings, she was met with a lot of “you should be…”  Realizing she was much happier when her business was smaller, Shani decided to redefine what success was in her life.

Shani opens up about her diagnosis of depression and her choice to categorize it as a blessing. She explains how moments of sadness and burnout give her body a sign to re-evaluate.  A different way of life emerged out of her unique experiences and obstacles that impacted her relationships with her employees and clients. Ultimately, a desire and focus on helping others led her to redefine success. She went on to incorporate her new version of success into her business. She also made her business personal by recognizing the humanity in her clients’ lives. A by-product of this philosophy is that Communiqúe USA has changed the mindset that corporations are set up for production, instead of being happy and having joy. In that vein, Dr. Mohan and Shani explain how stress and burnout cost companies billions of dollars in productivity, especially during the pandemic.

Finally, we learn about Shani’s latest book, “The Love Project.” In it, she tells her story in order to help others struggling with similar challenges. Listen to learn how finding your calling in life can give you momentum.
