An interview with city council candidate, Mandy Mahoney.

In this episode of “HelloHealth Today,” Dr. Carmen Mohan sits down for an interview with city council candidate, Mandy Mahoney. Dr. Mohan and Mandy touch on many topics in their discussion: the importance of radical self-care when you want to make change; running for public office; the key issues she is ready to tackle if elected; and how she stays healthy while working hard for what she wants.

Mandy and Dr. Mohan recount a meeting while attending an event with their husbands several years ago. At the time, Mandy was in law school and Dr. Mohan was in medical school and they have remained friends ever since. Mandy explains how environmental law and social justice shaped her career and how she was influenced at a young age to pursue that passion, which ultimately led her to run for public office. Her goal is to change existing systems to better address the social issues of our time. She spent her career working in the field alongside decision-makers and she wants to contribute her voice and her vision as a fresh layer of dynamic solutions to drive lasting change.

Dr. Mohan and Mandy consider how the various quality of life issues in the community may impact individual health, such as improving city sidewalks and providing affordable housing. Mandy notes how communities around the country have begun to integrate change in conjunction with medical professionals, with the ultimate goal of a healthier and more sustainable community.

Mandy emphasizes the importance of staying healthy throughout her campaign as well as her self-care routine, which includes journaling, meditating, exercising, maintaining a vegan diet, and listening to her body, and giving it what it needs.
